The relatively new drug Ketamine has hit local headlines recently, being identified as a particular problem in the Forest of Dean.
The Forest of Dean Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) is launching an information leaflet about the dangers of the drug Ketamine.
The leaflet is the first of its kind in the country, although it is anticipated that other Councils and Partnerships will follow in their footsteps.
Melanie Getgood, chair of the CDRP's Substance Action Group, said; "Ketamine has been identified as a particular problem in the Forest, and there has been quite a lot of press coverage.
"The dangers of this drug are not widely known as it is fairly new on the drugs scene. This leaflet is aimed specifically at young people and provides essential information about what Ketamine is and what makes it so dangerous."
Because Ketamine is an anaesthetic, an overdose can cause death. It also makes users vulnerable to being robbed or sexually assaulted.
Inspector for Forest South Steve Burnside said: "The problem with Ketamine has been escalating recently. From a law enforcement point of view, we will take a hard line on anybody supplying this dangerous drug to young people."
The launch of the leaflet coincides with Tackling Drugs Day on 23 May, part of the Home Office's Tackling Drugs Changing Lives campaign.
Gloucestershire Drug And Alcohol Team will be showcasing their work at a display stand at Eastgate Shopping Centre, Gloucester, on the day.
