Energy & Environment 2010
The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (formerly known as the Carbon
Reduction Commitment) is the UK's mandatory climate change and
energy saving scheme. Central to the UK’s strategy for
improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions, as set out in the Climate Change Act 2008, the scheme
has been designed to raise senior level awareness in large public
and private sector organisations to encourage changes in behaviour
and infrastructure.
Having been laid before parliament last month and coming into
effect on April 1st 2010 the scheme seeks to establish the first
carbon emissions reduction cap and trade scheme in the world for
non-energy intensive businesses that use 6,000 megawatts hour per
year of electricity.
Those organisation who contrevene the scheme rules face fines of up to £10,000 in Scotland and £5,000 in England and Wales.
The Ten Alps Energy & Environment 2010 conference
provides the last opportunity for those tasked with complying with
the CRC scheme to hear directly how the scheme will be introduced
and how your organisation may be affected.
Joan Ruddock MP will be delivering the Keynote speech at Energy
& Environment 2010, which is taking place on the 30th March at
the Business Design Centre in London, just 48 hours before the CRC
Energy Efficiency Scheme is introduced.
“The Ten Alps Energy and Environment 2010 conference is an
important opportunity to debate how the UK can best contribute to,
and enjoy the benefits of, the transition to a low carbon
economy”, Joan Ruddock - Parliamentary Under Secretary
DECC
In addition to providing further information on the CRC scheme,
this well established conference will debate the importance of
developing a low carbon economy and alongside Joan Ruddock,
speeches will be given by:
Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council - Sir Richard
attended Copenhagen to launch Manchester’s ambitious carbon
reduction scheme “Manchester’s Climate Change
Plan” which aims to reduce emissions by 41% before 2020.
Robert Napier, Chairman of the Homes and Communities Agency - The HCA is just one of the agencies that is tasked in making DECC’s Low Carbon Transition Plan a reality. With recent funding awarded, the HCA is now managing a £70 million budget for decentralised small-scale and community low-carbon energy.
Helen Philips, Chief Executive of Natural England - Helen will
deliver “Making Space for Renewable Energy” a speech
based on the multifaceted 2010/11 policy to reduce emissions.
