Where else can you learn Rugby skills in the morning then have a go at cookery tasting in the afternoon?

How about table tennis, face painting and ‘egg and spoon’ races - followed by kung fu, circus workshops, hot food, cricket training and a magician?

In fact, it’s amazing how so much fun has been packed into the Family Fun Day at Thornes Park on Sunday 23 August!

Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) has got together with its partners Keepmoat, NPS, Mears, and Bullock to fund an afternoon brimming with activities and fun for the whole family.

The event will be celebrating the achievements of the entire community by showcasing the talents of some of the many groups we’ve assisted, including South Kirkby Brass band and Horbury Cricket club.

There’ll be also be juggling lessons, a giant inflatable slide, a police mobile unit, a treasure hunt, balloon modelling and food and drink from the Wakefield Pie shop.

The Fire Brigade, the Wakefield Wildcats and Featherstone Rovers also holding demonstrations and skills training for the kids.

Sarah Chatham, WDH Resident Involvement Manager says the Family Fun Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the strong community spirit in the district.

“These are tough times for everyone,” says Sarah, “We thought a Family Fun Day would be a great way to bring everyone together and showcase the talent and opportunities that will see us through the hard times.

“Everyone can join in and celebrate the strengths and diversity that exist throughout our area”.

The inaugural Family Fun Day – loads of fun for everyone - at Thornes Park, Wakefield, between 12 and 4pm on Sunday 23 August.
