TODAY IN ENVIRONMENT

STARTING this month, Richmondshire District Council is now responsible for dealing with stray dogs in the district.

In the past, residents have had to call the police to deal with stray dogs outside office hours. But recent changes in the law have meant that from July 1, that responsibility has been transferred to local authorities.

Posters are being distributed across the district to inform residents of the changes.

All calls relating to stray dogs in Richmondshire should now be directed to the new 24-hour hotline number, 0845 2417253
