One of the longest established environmental bodies in the world has shrugged off the past with a new corporate identity symbolising holistic environmental solutions and a one world view for the future, according to the Town and Country Planning Association.

The charity launched its new identity this week in Milton Keynes as part of the city's 40th birthday celebrations.

Unveiling the new look TCPA to members in Milton Keynes' City Discovery Centre today TCPA Chair, Prof David Lock CBE, said: "Our charity's mission offering integrated and holistic community development which recognises the environmental, social and economic imperatives in a 'one world view' is symbolised by the concentric rings of our new TCPA logo. It is absolutely appropriate that we should launch this new commitment to our work in Britain's newest city – Milton Keynes is a hugely successful and exciting product of the TCPA's longstanding campaign for well planned new communities."

The fresh and modern look for a charity founded as long ago as 1899 has followed extensive work by the whole organisation including staff and voluntary trustees.

TCPA Chief Executive Gideon Amos added: "The new identity is evidence that one of the oldest think tanks on environmental development has now redoubled its efforts to lead the way to a sustainable future through planning for tomorrow.  It reflects our core values - independent, democratic, forward thinking, respected, influential and of crucial importance, responsive, empowering, accessible and inclusive. That means one of our tasks is to excite those beyond the traditional planning audiences about the future for our communities and how to shape it."

Thomas Matthews Associates worked with the TCPA in designing the new identity which also pays tribute to the organisation's beginnings as the Garden Cities Association.

Garden Cities were conceived diagrammatically within concentric rings of rail, road and green space networks.
