As the Government places increasing pressure on educators to record and assess pupils progress from an early stage, Prime Principle (stand Q55) is launching its online interactive markbook, Classroom Monitor Nursery. Already used by 1200 primary & secondary schools, this new version of Classroom Monitor is specifically designed for nurseries and is tailored to cover all statutory requirements for Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) recording. The simple online program allows staff to record every child’s learning objectives and respective attainment against EYFS criteria with ease.

Classroom Monitor enables staff to create pupil profiles and summaries in seconds: nurseries can build up a complete record of a child’s development online that will clearly highlight the next steps in each individual’s learning journeys. Consistency of this kind is critical to a child’s future progress; when the time comes to make the transition to primary education, Classroom Monitor enables a one-click transfer of all assessment information and observations into Reception. Not only is this convenient and useful for teachers, but it ensures that vital information is carried forward to inform every stage of a child’s education.

The simplicity of the program enables staff to track the development of each child and to share examples of their work with parents online. This facilitates real engagement with parents as staff are able to create clear and uncomplicated ‘reports’ detailing a child’s progress; encouraging parents to become more closely involved in their child’s learning experience. Staff are able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of an individual or a group on an ongoing basis, giving nurseries greater insight into which aspects of a child’s development require real focus. They can then share this information with parents easily; as a result, every parent can see how their child grows and develops through the simple secure online learning space.

Chris Scarth, Director at Prime Principle, comments: “The ability for teachers to share and upload examples of children’s work with parents promises to create a stronger dialogue between them. Parental engagement with a child’s learning from such an early age is really vital to encouraging a child’s development. In addition, the capacity to generate a bank of evidence to demonstrate how well children are progressing, or to highlight any issues there may be, that can be transferred at a click will be invaluable in supporting children through what can be a very difficult transition to the primary stage of their education. Nurseries using Classroom Monitor are able to stimulate children’s learning and will also benefit from the time saved in traditional paper-based reporting.”

Classroom Monitor costs approximately £150 per year for a nursery school and encompasses a full site licence including technical support and updates.
