Social landlord Riverside in partnership with Rochdale Housing Initiative has secured £7,000 from the Learning Skills Council to fund an interior design course for its tenants on the Langley estate in Middleton.

The course covers colour theory and colour schemes, and planning and finishes. It will be tutored by Catherine Toolan, an independent consultant who specialises in working with social landlords to provide creative learning and qualifications.

On completion of the 12-week course, which is supplied by the National Design Academy, the students will receive an Award Qualification in Interior design accredited by the Open College Network.

Sharon Thomas, Riverside’s Community Initiatives Team Leader, said: “This is one of a number of initiatives we are involved in to improve the prosperity of our tenants by tackling financial exclusion and worklessness.

“By creating opportunities for our residents through training courses we are hopefully improving their job prospects.

Enrolment takes place on Friday 27 November at Burnside Community Centre in Langley between 10am and 12noon.

The course runs once a week, every Monday between 10am and 3pm at Burnside Community Centre.

For more information contact Sharon Thomas or Tracey Evans on 0845 111 0000.
