Anglian Building Products, the commercial division of Anglian Windows were awarded the contract to supply and fit over 700 tilt and turn PVCu coloured windows for the Mansell Darwin Fields project at the University of Kent.

The windows were coloured with paint from specialist suppliers AVKO and installed in a major new halls of residence development at the University of Kent. The £36 million contemporary collection of 544 ensuite study bedrooms in 6 to 8 cluster flats for post graduate students on the old Darwin Fields site were constructed by Mansell/UPP Ltd and feature PVCu windows sprayed goosewing grey externally and left white internally.

The windows needed to blend in with the aluminium windows also on site and therefore the matching of the colour for the PVCu to the aluminium finish was crucial to the project.

Developed specifically for use on PVC profile, once applied, the paint is touch dry in less than two minutes and cures within 24 hours to a highly durable finish that will not crack, flake or peel. UV stable, the paint is tested weatherproof for 10 years and has a 10 year guarantee on adhesion.

Sadie Peeters, director, AVKO, commented, “Greys are one of our most popular colour choices as the effect once painted is so similar to that of aluminium. However, as architects and planners are becoming more aware of the quality of finish that can be achieved by colouring PVC, we have started to see far more unusual colours specified in order to create more striking facades and colour matches with surroundings.”

Stephen Preece, Director for Anglian Building Products commented ‘
' We were very pleased with how the works at the University of Kent progressed. Following regular liaison between all parties, we ensured that the client was provided with the ideal solution to meet their project requirements.’
