Alan Duncan MP, visited The Lodge in Oakham recently to see first hand how Spire Homes are keeping their promises and making improvements to their sheltered schemes.

Mr Duncan met tenants who have had their kitchens and bathrooms replaced. Tenants Joyce and David Newman, said “I am really pleased with our new kitchen and bathroom and I was so impressed with how helpful the contractors were – nothing was too much trouble’.

Tenants voted last November for Spire Homes to take ownership of the Council housing. Since then, they have started improvements all over the county in general needs housing, as well as sheltered schemes.

Alan Duncan said “I came to find out how Spire Homes is delivering their improvement programme and to speak to the tenants about their experience. I was impressed with how much choice the tenants have in choosing colours of tiles, units and worktops. I am looking forward to returning to the Lodge when the communal areas have been refurbished”.

Dorothy Sharman, also a tenant, said “the treatment I have received has been first class and I couldn’t believe that I could choose everything myself”.

Notes: Spire Homes has promised to deliver £21 million worth of improvements in the first 5 years as well as improve services.
