On Saturday 13 February, Moat residents living in Wood Road in Heybridge, Maldon, Essex left out their bulk items of rubbish for collection by Craig Paul Clearance services. Moat organised the free collection in order to prevent the dumping of furniture and other large items in the bin store area or in the street.
The collection was part of Moat’s neighbourhood charter at Heybridge which covers Wood Road, Oak Road and Chestnut Avenue. The organisation has created eight of these charters in key Moat neighbourhoods throughout Essex, Kent and Sussex. The neighbourhood teams in these areas are working with residents to ensure that their communities are clean, attractive and safe.
In Heybridge, Moat has collected feedback from an evening consultation meeting, a door to door survey of all households and a questionnaire sent out to all key agencies. One of the priorities which emerged from this feedback was to promote the responsible disposal of all litter. The bulk rubbish collection is part of this new commitment to keep the neighbourhood clean as well as working with local agencies to participate in campaigns like ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ and communicating the possible legal consequences of littering through a community newsletter.
Moat’s community development officer, Nicola Syder, says; “The neighbourhood charter in Heybridge is working really well so far. It has allowed Moat to work together with residents in order to create a safer, tidier neighbourhood. This bulk collection was great as it offered residents the opportunity to have a spring clean and get rid of all their large items of rubbish without any hassle. Combined with the other services we’re providing, like a fortnightly litter pick and regular estate inspections, we’re listening to residents’ concerns and putting resolutions into action.”
