BUDDING CHEFS: Young people at the ‘What’s Your Point’ charity in Redditch celebrate their new kitchen donated by Frank Haslam Milan West Midlands.
Budding chefs at a youth charity in Redditch have been following Jamie Oliver’s lead by whipping up a number of tasty treats thanks to community regeneration expert Frank Haslam Milan West Midlands (FHM).
The youngsters, who are aged between 8 and 18, have been honing their cooking skills after Coleshill-based housebuilder installed a new kitchen, cooker and fridge, entirely free of charge.
The new kitchen is more spacious and will also be used by parents wanting to learn basic cooking skills at the ‘What’s Your Point’ charity situated at the Bryant building in Bengrove Close, Redditch.
As part of the refurbishment programme FHM donated a fridge, and M&D Carpentry, one of the local subcontractors, provided a new cooker.
Promoting a healthier lifestyle forms a key part of the ‘What’s Your Point’ charity which launched seven years ago to support young people who have become disengaged from mainstream activity.
FHM discovered the ‘What’s Your Point’ charity when carrying out multi-million pound refurbishment work across Redditch.
The Keepmoat company is working in partnership with Redditch Borough Council on its £9.6 million investment scheme to bring 3,300 properties up to the Government’s Decent Homes standard by 2012.
Maureen Hayden, one of the Directors at the ‘What’s Your Point’ charity, said: “We’re so grateful to FHM for everything they have done for us.
“They were carrying out refurbishment work in the area when they just so happened to pop in to see us, to ask whether there was anything they could do.
“The children are absolutely delighted with their new kitchen facilities and can’t believe that someone would want to provide us with a kitchen for free. As a charity, we strive to promote the importance of healthy lifestyles so these new facilities will help us in a big way.”
FHM’s Tenant Liaison Officer, Ellen Hughes, said: “As a company, we always go out of our way to give something back to the communities in which we work and it’s very gratifying to see the delighted looks on people’s faces when we complete refurbishment work such as this. I would also like to thank M&D Carpentry for their kind donation.”
