Two sheltered housing schemes in Merseyside have been shortlisted for Housing for Older People Awards.

Willowdene Court in Croxteth and Ivy Court in St Helens - both managed by ECHG, Riverside’s specialist provider of sheltered and supported housing – are finalists in the awards run by the Elderly Accommodation Council (EAC) after being nominated by tenants.

For the first time residents of retirement housing, sheltered housing, assisted living and extra care housing have been able to vote for their schemes through a consultation involving them in small groups as well as individually, using a deck of cards designed to stimulate discussions and help capture satisfaction ratings on design, services and well-being.

Judith Crowther, ECHG’s Director of Older People’s Services, said: “We are delighted that ECHG has finalists in two of the award categories. This is no mean feat given that the awards attracted over 500 entries. It is a testament to the importance of empowering our tenants to have a voice in their services.”

The awards are supported by the Department for Communities and Local Government and the winners are due to be announced in February 2010.
