Young people in north Doncaster can look forward to a summer of music and fun, thanks to a grant from the Keepmoat Foundation to support the activities of a charity.

A Junction Network North has been given £1,468 to replace its worn out music and sporting equipment, which is used by scores of youngsters in Askern. The group is planning to spend the money on spinning plates and diablos for circus workshops and DJ equipment, an amplifier and speakers for discos.

The organisation, which is based at the Houlsby Resource Centre in Sutton Road, now plans to put on a programme of events during next year’s summer holidays. Without the funding, the group would have struggled to provide a wider range of healthy activities for young people this summer in Askern and nearby villages.

The charity’s project manager Belinda Wood said: “We work with up to 50 young people on a daily basis with after-school projects. Young people in this area would not have opportunities to use this equipment at home, and they have loved using it here.

“Our old equipment had become worn out, so this donation is certainly very welcome for us, the young people, and the entire community.

“It promises to be a great summer for us now, thanks to the donation we have received.”

Keepmoat delivery companies Frank Haslam Milan (FHM), Bramall Construction and Keepmoat Homes, have supported the project alongside two others in South Yorkshire which have received thousands of pounds of funding, administered through the South Yorkshire Community Foundation.

Sheffield Basketball Development Group, based in Bents Lane, Sheffield, received a grant of £1,471 to fund its activities with young people. Skellow-based Bullcroft Art Buds was given £750 to help fund the hire of its facilities and material for its sessions.

Steve Howe, Executive Advisor to the Keepmoat Foundation, said: “Creative arts and sport continue to be important areas in which young people can develop their talents.

“The Foundation is pleased to support such projects in South Yorkshire.”
