In response to the latest research from the Universities of Exeter and Bristol highlighting that autism is on the increase as a result of environmental factors:

TreeHouse, the national charity for autism education, believes that although it is vital that more research is carried out to help identify the causes of autism, it is also crucial that recourses are targeted in support for those with autism and their families

Jolanta Lasota, TreeHouse Chief Executive, said:

“TreeHouse knows that appropriate education can make a world of difference to the development of children with autism and to their families and we see this on a daily basis with the children who are educated at TreeHouse School in north London. Regardless of cause, the majority of the one in 100 children with autism in the UK are not getting the education that meets their needs and we strive to highlight this issue to ensure that these children can reach their full potential.”

The findings on the increase of autism due to environmental factors were published in the journal Child: Care, Health and Development.
