Detectives were today investigating the deaths of a couple whose
bodies were found at their home.
The man and woman, both believed to be aged in their 40s, were
discovered at a house in Farnworth, Greater Manchester, when police
were alerted last night.
It is understood the man was found hanged while the woman had
suffered severe head injuries. Both were thought to be Lithuanian
nationals.
Officers attended the address in Tig Fold Road at 10.40pm
yesterday.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "An investigation has
been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the
deaths.
"Post-mortem examinations are due to take place either later today
or tomorrow.
Detective Inspector Andy Cunliffe said: "This investigation is at a
very early stage and to be speculating about what has happened
would be unhelpful.
"There are a number of possibilities we need to explore and we will
do that during the course of our investigation.
"I would however like to reassure residents in the community who
may be anxious that we are doing everything we can to establish the
facts and this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is
no reason to cause alarm."
Police are said to be working on the theory that the man may have
killed his partner before he committed suicide.
