Pre-school children at a Sure Start centre in Shiregreen, Sheffield are enjoying a new sensory room and outdoor play pit thanks to Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) Yorkshire.

The specialist facility is an aid to children’s sensory development and was made possible through FHM providing all the labour and materials free of charge to compliment the specialist equipment provided by Sheffield City Council.

The sensory room is kitted out with a large bubble tube, an infinity panel, and a light display which is proving very popular with the pre-school children.

Centre Manager Julie Thorpe said: “The aim of the room is to stimulate the children helping them with language, communication, and concentration. The team at FHM were brilliant; they rose to the challenge and have really helped us add to the quality of the provision here. Shiregreen really needed something like this, somewhere different. It’s especially beneficial for children with special educational needs or with a sensory impairment of speech, hearing or sight. The children don’t need to be using our day care services to use the sensory room; parents can simply book the room out for 15 minutes at a time.”
