Staff and residents of a Sanctuary Care home are celebrating after it was chosen to be the beneficiary of this year’s Trowbridge Carnival.

Shaftesbury Court, a residential home for people with learning and physical disabilities in Manor Close, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, was chosen by the Trowbridge Carnival Committee to benefit from the money collected at this year’s annual event, which will start at 7pm on Saturday from Canal Road.

The money raised will go towards the home’s minibus appeal.

Shaftesbury Court’s manager Steve Coare said: “We are absolutely over the moon that the committee has kindly chosen us to be this year’s beneficiary.

“We have had great fun throughout the year at fund-raising events for our minibus appeal, which have included football-themed fun days and plenty more!”

Carnival chairman Maryrose Mantle said: “Shaftesbury Court was chosen by the committee because it is such a worthwhile group and having a new minibus will enable the residents to take part in an even greater number of community events.”

The event is expected to attract up to 13,000 spectators, with around 250 people taking part on floats and other top secret ‘wheeled entries’.
