Residents taking part in competition
An ‘It’s a Knockout’ style competition provided the entertainment for residents who had fun in the sun during an event at Princess Elizabeth Playing Fields in Hull on Sunday, 30th August.
Organised by local community group Voices in Play, the competition saw 78 residents, in six teams, battling their way to victory over large inflatable obstacles in a version of the former hit TV show.
Sunday’s event was the first major event organised by Voices in Play after the group recently received a grant of £30,000 from its sponsor Sanctuary Housing who are helping support their activities over the next three years.
The competition was split into a junior and senior event with three mixed teams taking part in each. Competitors were watched by around 200 spectators who took the opportunity to support family and friends and meet other residents from the area.
Winners of the junior competition, which saw residents taking part as young as three, were ‘The Little Monsters’, with ‘The Fizzy Buddies’ emerging victorious in the senior event, for competitors aged eight and over.
Sue Wilson, housing officer for Sanctuary, said: “The day was a fantastic success and it was great to see so many residents coming together and enhancing spirit in the local community.”
Tricia Beacock, chief executive and director of Voices in Play,
added: “Without the generous support from Sanctuary,
Sunday’s event would not have taken place and we are looking
forward to providing similar activities for residents in the
future.”
