Following the very successful toddler play area opening last year in Tytherington, work is starting on the new junior play area and basketball area at the Tytherington Links Open Space. Local residents from the Tytherington Links Open Space Project (TLOSP), Groundwork staff and local councillors will be on site to help the contractors the start work on this great new facility on 11th August at 1pm. The new facilities will be ready for use in October this year.
A busy year of fundraising has secured over £72,000 for the new junior play area and basketball area at Sandwich Drive. Grants have been awarded by the Landfill Communities Fund of Waste Recycling Group (WRG), administered and distributed by Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN), BIG Lottery Fund’s Community Spaces initiative, The Regenda Group, Groundwork Cheshire and the Bernard Sunley Foundation. In addition, the Tytherington Links Open Space Project (TLOSP) and Tytherington Family Worship have raised over £7,000 themselves via events and local donations which is great achievement.
Chris Cooke from TLOSP says: “We are delighted there will
soon be great new facilities for the older children and young
people alongside the new toddler area and would like to thank all
the funders, residents, former Tytherington Councillors Brendan
Murphy and James Nicholas, Cheshire East and Groundwork Cheshire
for their help and support".
"We are now busy raising funds for the final Phase 4, improving the
football/informal sports area. For further details on this project
and information on how to contact us if you would like to make a
donation or have any fundraising ideas, please see the notice board
in the play area or visit our website

Peter Heberlet, Director of Sustainable Communities from Groundwork Cheshire: “The aim of the Tytherington Links Open Space Project is to transform the open space for families so that they can come to play and relax in it. The toddler area, opened just over a year ago, the new pathways and the planting that the community have undertaken, have already made the area a much more used and loved space. The work that is starting today thanks to the generous grants that have been received will provide an improved slide, climbing and spinning equipment, swings, see-saw and seating as well as and a larger and better basketball area for children and teenagers.”
Alex Morrish, Regional Services Manager at The Regenda Group said: “As we have a number of properties nearby we know that the Tytherington Play Area project is an essential part of transforming the existing site into a vibrant facility for the local community to enjoy. The Regenda Group are delighted to support and work in partnership on this exciting initiative with the local community and Groundwork. The facility will benefit both our residents and their children and the wider community.”
Councillor Bill Livesley, Ward Councillor for Prestbury and
Tytherington at Cheshire East Council adds:
“The Council are really pleased to see this project taking
shape. The junior play area and basketball area will be a wonderful
addition to this space for children and teenagers.”
Richard Smith from WREN : “We are delighted that the third
phase of works at Tytherington Links Open Space are underway. We
were really impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment of the
local community when we were involved in the first phase of the
project and hope the new facilities are enjoyed for many years to
come.”
