MP for Weston-super-Mare John Penrose and Town Mayor Dr Mike Kellaway-Marriott were guests of honour at an open day at Beach Lawns Care Home.

The event, which took place at the home in Beach Road, gave guests the opportunity to hear all about Sanctuary Care’s exciting £1.25 million plans for the home.

Manager Demelza James, said: “It was a fantastic event and our guests seemed extremely impressed with the quality of the work done to date, as well as our plans for the future.

“Beach Lawns is already a stunning home, but when the works are complete it will be truly spectacular!”

To date 18 bedrooms have been upgraded and new fire alarm and nurse call systems installed.

Guests were able to view the rooms, as well as detailed plans for internal and external works.

Following Thursday’s visit Mr Penrose said: “I was impressed by the newly refurbished rooms, and delighted by Sanctuary’s plans to invest hundreds of thousands in their Weston facilities.  It should help to keep them – and Weston bang up to date and leading the way in the future.”

The next stage of the project will include the refurbishment of the entrance and reception area and upgrading of the principal lounges, dining rooms, corridors, bathrooms and hairdressing salon. There will also be new furniture and soft furnishings. Behind the scenes, extensive improvements will be made to the main kitchen and laundries.

Outside the stonework will undergo full restoration and the gardens will be landscaped to include ‘sensory’ planting, a gazebo and water feature.

Tenders for the work will be invited later this month, for a site start by early Autumn 2009 and anticipated completion by summer 2010.

The work will be carried out in phases to cause minimal disruption to the staff and residents.
