The Grand Challenge, an ‘Apprentice’ style
competition from Papworth Trust, has been shortlisted in the
industry Oscars.
The Grand Challenge has been shortlisted by charity magazine Third
Sector in the best Fundraising event category. The winners of each
category will be announced on 24 September 2009.
The Awards reward examples of outstanding campaigns, strategies,
projects and performance, backed up by hard evidence of success. An
impressive £66,000 was raised in the Grand Challenge, beating
its target of £50,000.
Bridget Orchard, fundraising manager at Papworth Trust, says:
“It’s fantastic that the Grand Challenge has been
recognised in such respected Awards. The initiative itself was so
successful as it exceeded its target. The money raised will make a
real difference to people’s lives.”
Twenty teams took part in the competition including local
businesses; Marshall of Cambridge, Hill Partnerships and Taylor
Vinters Solicitors. Teams from local schools also entered to raise
money including The Perse School and Melbourn Village College. A
range of activities were planned from charity music gigs and talent
shows, to indulgence days and producing and selling waterproof bike
seat covers.
The Grand Challenge inspired teams of between three and six people,
to provide a budget, of up to £1000, to devise, plan and
complete the most successful fundraising initiative for Papworth
Trust. A real challenge, in challenging times.
