Stoke-based social enterprise, PM Training, has become one of the first organisations to sign up to the new Youthbuild UK Charter.

Youthbuild UK works with a variety of organisations from the public, private and third sectors to provide training, qualifications and employment to disadvantaged young people in the construction industry.

The Framework and Charter was recently launched by Rt Hon Nick Raynsford MP, and is the first step in establishing ‘youth building’ as a recognised stream of support, education, training and employment for young adults.

PM Training, which operates as a social enterprise and is part of the Aspire Housing Group, is one of 30 organisations who have already signed up. It has pledged its commitment to helping disadvantaged and disaffected young people to overcome social exclusion through construction work.

Will Nixon, Chief Executive of PM Training, said: “We are delighted to support the Youthbuild UK Charter.

“Youthbuilding projects are a very effective way of engaging young people, supporting their development and celebrating their success.

“In recent months, young people have been hardest hit by unemployment; they really are the victims of the current economic climate.

“PM Training is committed to helping them find lasting and rewarding employment in their chosen industry.”

John Montague, Chairman of Youth Build UK, added: "It is fantastic to see organisations committing to invest in, and develop the youth within their communities.

“PM Training is a leading example of how organisations can practically deliver educational and economic improvements to communities through innovative partnerships and delivery methods."

Since its launch, PM Training has provided tailor-made training and life-coaching programmes for nearly 9,000 people. It tackles worklessness by giving those with few or no qualifications an alternative route into employment.

The organisation has major contracts with the Learning and Skills Council and provides training in a variety of subjects ranging from basic numeracy and literacy to NVQ management programmes. All courses are delivered by highly qualified and experienced staff in state-of-the-art facilities.
