Newham Council’s Community Forums are holding a series of free table tennis competitions in December.

The competitions are being run in conjunction with Sport England and are open to young people and adults in four age categories: eight to 15 years, 16 to 18 years, over 18s and over 50s.

Anyone who lives or works in one of the nine community forum areas can take part in their local competition. All they have to do is turn up ready to play. All sporting equipment will be provided.

The heats start on Tuesday, December 9 and run until Friday, December 12. The finals will take place on Sunday, December 14 at Newham Leisure Centre in Plaistow.

All finalists will receive a t-shirt and a Newham medal. The winners will each receive a Newham Shield and an MP3 player.

Executive Member for Culture, Councillor Jo Corbett, said: “Table tennis is a great sport to play whether you are fairly new to it or an experienced player – it’s always fun.

“I encourage residents of all abilities to take part in this friendly, fun competition and get active.”

The table tennis competition is part of a series of free community forum sports competitions.
