Human remains found as police search house of suicide victim
Human remains were found at a house today as it was being searched by police, a force said.
A murder investigation is under way following the discovery of the adult remains at the home of Gavin Tomlinson, 45, in Southport, Merseyside.
Officers were called to the address after Mr Tomlinson was found dead on Monday.
It is thought he committed suicide and his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Officers were searching the property, in Norwood Crescent, hoping to find information to help them trace his family.
The property has been cordoned off as forensic examinations take place and house-to-house inquiries are under way.
Detective Chief Inspector Nikki Holland said: "Mr Tomlinson's death is not believed to be suspicious and the matter has been referred to the coroner.
"I would like to reassure the local community that we are conducting an intensive and thorough investigation into this murder.
"We believe that the remains may belong to someone Mr Tomlinson knew and I am keen to speak to Mr Tomlinson's family and friends to help us with our inquiries.
"We are not looking for anyone else in connection to the murder at the moment."
A police spokeswoman said: "Merseyside Police can now confirm that the body recovered is that of an adult female.
"A Home Office post-mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death."
Anybody with information about Mr Tomlinson should call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 3165 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
