Crimestoppers' youth website www.shadowcs.co.uk was last night highly commended at the Third Sector Excellence Awards in the website category.
ShadowCS is aimed at 11 – 16-year-olds and features gossip, music, advice, discussion forums on crimes that affect young people, and it also provides legal information. Launched in October 2007, Shadow CS has already received 1.3 million hits from 91 countries.
Phil Pyatt, Crimestoppers' Head of Youth said: “We are extremely proud to have received this commendation from Third Sector and to have been nominated in the website category among such impressive website and good causes.
"This year we celebrate ShadowCS's first anniversary, along with Crimestoppers 20th anniversary, so getting this recognition from Third Sector has truly enhanced the years celebrations and great achievements.”
A new additional element to the ShadowCS site is the anonymous online giving information form to allow young people to pass on information they may have about crime anonymously.
The law section on the ShadowCS website has recently been revamped along with additional games; a new blockbuster style game and graffiti ‘tagging' game.
The aim of www.shadowcs.co.uk is to help educate young people about the dangers of crime and provide advice and information on crime that effects them to try and deter them from committing criminal acts. The site also provides anonymous advice, to help guide young people in making the right and safe choices if they come into contact with criminality.
