The parents of an 11-year-old schoolboy found hanged in his bedroom desperately tried to revive him, police said today.

Tyler Johns was discovered collapsed with a ligature around his neck by his mother Wendie and father Lee at the family home in Bolton, Greater Manchester, last Wednesday evening.

He was found laid on his bedroom floor against his bed as his parents fought to save his life before an ambulance arrived.

Tyler was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital but medics were unable to save his life.

Today Tyler's parents paid tribute to their caring, music-loving son.

"We're desperately trying to coming to terms with the death of our son," they said in a joint statement.

"He was a typical lad and a very loving son.

"Nobody must blame themselves or anyone else for Tyler's death.

"We'd spoken to him shortly before he died and he told us he was not being bullied at school, or anywhere else for that matter.

"Both pupils and staff at Smithills High School have shown great support for our family and we're extremely grateful for that.

"Tyler had a great sense of humour and we will always remember the laughter we used to share together.

"His hobbies included a love for music. He especially liked rappers Eminem and 50 Cent.

"His death has left a very large hole in our lives, which will never be filled.

"We have been heartened at this awful time by the kind emails, flowers, cards and support we've received from lots of people.

"We'd also like to thank the police, ambulance and hospital staff for the way in which they dealt with Tyler's death."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and that the case had been passed to the coroner.

Tyler's funeral will be held at Altrincham Crematorium next Tuesday.
