Only 12% of Britons eat five-a-day fruit and veg - survey
Shoppers who find it difficult to get around Leicester will be able to get their fruit and veg delivered from the city's market to their doorstep.
In a scheme thought to be one of the first of its kind in the country, people will choose their food from Leicester's famous stalls before handing it to cycle couriers to take it home for them.
It officially begins on October 22 and will run from 10am until 2pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
The city council, which is funding the two-year trial, said its task group for regeneration and transport came up with the idea.
Task group leader Sarah Russell said: "I am delighted that we can pilot this scheme, ensuring that the fantastic, cheap fruit and veg from the market is something that can be enjoyed by everyone.
"It is a unique scheme with a lot of potential, not only helping the more vulnerable members of our communities but also helping to reduce the city's carbon footprint."
The courier service will be ran from a stall in Leicester Market.
People need to register with ShopMobility to qualify for the scheme, which initially has 500 places.
