African Caribbean businesses in the spotlight for ACBF Awards
The Black Countrys leading African Caribbean businesses are set to battle it out for the prestigious ACBF Awards later this week.
Guests will descend on the Copthorne Hotel on October 10th to see firsthand the cream of entrepreneurial talent and companies that have had a major impact on the local economy and in developing new skills.
The high profile event, which is backed by Advantage West Midlands and the West Midlands Minority Ethnic Business Forum, has attracted many new entries this year, with judges finally settling on an impressive shortlist that includes Caribbean food manufacturer Cleone Foods, Jarretts Hairdressing Training, reggae dance magazine Real Talk and Soccer Buddy, the junior training aid invented by Julian Broomes.
Other potential winners are Alan McLean Marketing, The Change Coach, Visions of Esteem and Medical Devices Technology International, which has received global acclaim for its ability to design and develop groundbreaking medical products.
Sandra Croasdale, Chair of the African Caribbean Business Federation, picked up the story:
Our Awards evening is all about showcasing the talent we possess in the region and to provide inspiration for others. This years competition is no different and is based around the theme of celebrating your personal best, whether that is in starting your own business, manufacturing the best products or winning orders overseas.
At the recent Olympics in Beijing, we have seen many black athletes achieve success with Jamaicas Usain Bolt becoming the fastest man in the world and captivating millions in the process. Business is a slightly different setting, but the same principles about being the best can still apply and this is what we will see on the evening.
She continued: What is really pleasing is the diversity of the industries represented and their achievements in creating jobs, launching new services and becoming leaders in their respective fields. Exactly the type of companies the region needs.
Master of ceremonies on the night will be MTV presenter and stand-up comedian Richard Blackwood, with entertainment from Kalillo Drumming, Tru-Fam Record Artists (Soul Band) and Emerald Green (Folk Singer).
Sandra concluded: The African Caribbean business community has grown massively over the years and we are determined to make sure this continues.
The really pleasing feature is that there is so much potential out there that we can still tap into and if this competition can help encourage someone else to start or grow their own business then we have achieved what we set out to do.
The ACBF was established in 2001 with the specific aim of supporting and promoting African Caribbean businesses.
Working closely with a host of strategic partners, it continues to provide a platform for member companies to access mainstream support and products, helping businesses expand and flourish in the region.
A limited amount of tickets still remain and more information is available from Sandra Croasdale, on 07896 855803 or email sandracroasdale@blackcountrychamber.co.uk
