TODAY IN COMMUNITIES

Environmentally-conscious shoppers can pick up a wide selection of food, clothing, art and crafts, energy-saving devices and household goods in Stratford.

Newham Council is hosting the Keen Green and Ethical Market in Meridian Square from October 15 to 17.

Products that will be on sale are sourced or produced to standards that are ethical and eco-friendly. People can also buy organic and recycled goods and can be assured that the traders all come from within 40 miles of the area.

The Newham Fairtrade Network will have a stall on Friday, October 17. They are organising a prize draw in association with the Newham Mag with a prize of a hamper of goods from the market. Details will be published in the October 4 edition of the Mag.

Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, said: This is a fantastic way to get the local community to discover the vast range of everyday goods that are also kind to the environment.

Newham became a Fairtrade borough this year and we are committed to providing people with greater opportunities to buy ethical goods.

I would encourage people to come along and bring their families and friends to the Keen Green and Ethical Market. This is the first time that the market has come to Newham and I hope that it will be a huge success.

The market will be open from 9am till late. Meridian Square is in front of Stratford Station.

Local businesses that are interested in taking a stall can email: office@thefreemarketeers.co.uk or telephone 0870 774 0251 or 07931 199851.
