New two-wheeled recruits have been introduced to help tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

Newham Council has bought two Ecoriders to help the parks constabulary team maintain safety in the boroughs parks.

The officers patrol the parks on the two-wheeled vehicles, which run on biodiesel, were chosen for their low fuel consumption. The machines are quiet and do not damage the grass.

Executive member for anti-social behaviour Councillor June Leitch met members of the parks constabulary team on their new vehicles as they patrolled Beckton District Park.

She said: These Ecoriders provide our parks constabulary officers with an efficient and effective way of patrolling parks and in dealing with any incidents.

Parks are for everyone to enjoy and it is no fun when a minority disrupt this pleasure for everyone else. High visibility patrols using these Ecoriders will make a positive difference to safety in parks.

The Ecoriders are normally used in farming and forestry. Footballer-turned-actor Vinnie Jones also owns one.
