Following the success of the One Youth Cup earlier this year, One Housing Groups Youth Service Team will be uniting diverse groups of young people this summer through an 8-a-side football tournament.
Aimed at boys aged between 9 and 15, the One Euro Youth Cup will be held at Camdens Haverstock School between 18 and 22 August from 3-6pm, with the finals for all age groups taking place on Friday 22nd. A total of 20 teams will take part in the tournament, with participants from a variety of youth project, community centres such as Fitzrovia Youth in Action, play schemes and estates across the Camden, Islington, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Westminster boroughs. Whilst some have entered as existing teams, others have come forward individually through their common interest in the game.
One Youth Cups last tournament, held in April, proved a huge success. One of the participants who played for the winning team was 12 year old David Bangrah, has recently been signed for Reading Football Clubs Youth Academy on a 2 year professional schoolboy contract.
The tournament has been organised with the support of Community Action, Puma UK, Camden Street Wardens, Pro Touch Soccer Academy and Haverstock School.
Ash Rahman, the Youth Development Officer who will be running the event said: The 8-a-side tournament is just one of a wide range of initiatives for young people organised as part of our annual
summer programme, which features daily activities, outings and events. We are delighted to have received such a high level of response for the event, whose key objectives are to bring together
diverse groups of young people who share a love of football and to promote social cohesion and acceptance.
