Whizz-Kidz has responded to the House of Commons Public Administration Select Committee's (PASC) report on the third sector - published this week. The children's mobillity charity calls for more exploration into - and guidance on - how Primary Care Trusts and third sector organisations can work together towards excellence in public service provision.
Ruth Owen, Chief Executive of Whizz-Kidz , commented:
"While Whizz-Kidz agrees with the Committee that the third sector’s contribution to public service delivery requires a stronger evidence base to establish 'best practice', innovative joint working that takes place outside the realms of a formal contract, is a critical first step to winning the support of commissioners at a senior level. This is particularly true among Primary Care Trusts - often tentative about working with diverse providers.
"Our own award-winning work with Tower Hamlets PCT to provide customised wheelchairs which meet a growing child’s complete needs for the first time, started small in scale and used a case by
case approach. Working closely together and establishing a relationship based on trust, delivered a cultural change - which in time led to an increase in support, and a long term commitment from
commissioners and the CEO. PCTs need much more guidance to test and explore how they should be working with charities and other third sector bodies to achieve excellence in local service
provision."
