TODAY IN COMMUNITIES

The Papworth Trust, one of the UKs leading disability charities, is launching The Grand Challenge, an exciting Apprentice Style Fundraising Contest which challenges teams to create their own fundraising initiative.

Teams of between three and six people, each with a budget not exceeding £1,000, are challenged to develop a range of innovative, creative and successful fundraising ideas. This fun and exciting opportunity will help teams develop skills in management and team building by using their marketing, selling and entrepreneurial skills to find out who really is the best.

Winners will be awarded prizes in a number of categories at an exclusive celebration award ceremony. The awards will be judged by an exceptional panel of judges who are offering their knowledge and expertise. Judges include Alan Barrell, Walter Herriot, Candace Johnson, Lord Billimoria, Sherry Coutu, Simon Ambrose the winner of the 2007 BBC Apprentice series and Doug Richard one of the original Dragons on Dragons Den said:

To bring the competitive spirit and the entrepreneurial spirit into such a worthy cause as Papworth Trust and its objectives concerning disability is such a positive move - I applaud it wholeheartedly. To engage teams in companies to grow donations from an initial investment is a really innovative idea - and gives those participating a real world challenge.

The Grand Challenge runs over a three month period from the 1st October until the 31st December 2008, so if you can get a team together, and want a real challenge its time to sign up. Visit the Grand Challenge website for more information or e-mail grandchallenge@papworth.org.uk or telephone 01480 357257.
