A "green" car show in Cornwall is said to be a "glimpse of the future" of motoring.

The Co-operative Insurance Eden Project Sexy Green Car Show opens at the Eden Project multi-environmental complex as motorists face rocketing prices at the pumps.

Show director Gus Grand said: "The way fuel is going it it looks like greener cars are here to stay.

"Cars are an extraordinary piece of technology, but they have never before been sold on efficiency.

She said there was "enormous potential" for motoring to be more efficient.

"Cars are not going to go away," she said, adding that the 33 "green" vehicles on show at Eden could be a "glimpse of the future" of motoring.

The British manufacturer Morgan's futuristic hydrogen LIFECar is making its UK debut at the show, which runs until May 31.

Based on the design of the company's Aero-8 roadster, the LIFECar has an energy consumption equivalent to 150 miles per gallon on petrol.

The LIFECar, built iin Malvern, Worcestershire, produces zero harmful emissions - the only waste product released from the car is water vapour.

A hybrid-powered Saab on display at the show even has solar panels on the roof to help power its electric engine.
