A 16-year-old from Irlam who continually displayed abusive, violent and aggressive conduct has received an Antisocial Behaviour Order (ASBO) which applies to the whole of the Greater Manchester area.

Guinness Northern Counties, acted independently in bringing the action against Michael Burgess of 2, Olympia Court, 121, Liverpool Road, Irlam, following years of antisocial behaviour.

Magistrates heard how Burgess, who lives at the property with his grandmother, a tenant of the association, damaged property, used offensive and intimidating language causing distress to others and used and threatened violence on many occasions.

The order bars him from engaging in such behaviours anywhere in the Greater Manchester area.

The ASBO remains in force until 14th April 2010.

Carol Matthews, Chief Executive of Guinness Northern Counties said the ASBO sends out a clear message to the local community about the association’s determination to deal firmly with antisocial behaviour regardless of the culprit’s age.

She said: “This kind of repeated antisocial behaviour causes misery for those who have to live with it and as an association we will always take action wherever we can.

"This is the first stand alone ASBO we have achieved after consultation with the police and the local authority and I should like to thank my staff for their hard work in tackling this problem.”
