Man arrested after 'recycled' body found at waste management site
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body travelled 155 miles across the country through the recycling system and was discovered at a waste management site.
The body of the Birmingham man, who has not been named, is believed to have arrived at a company on the outskirts of London on a lorry which came from a depot in Redditch, Worcestershire.
Police have arrested a man in connection with their investigation and he is currently in custody assisting with enquiries.
A police spokeswoman said: "West Mercia Constabulary have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of a man at a waste management company in Crayford, south east
London.
"A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody assisting with enquiries.
"It is believed the body arrived at the venue through the recycling system, on a lorry which originated from the Crossgates depot in Redditch."
Police were called to the Crayford site on Tuesday afternoon, she said.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Morgan of West Mercia Constabulary, who is leading the investigation, said: "The body has been identified as that of a man from the Birmingham area.
"Next of kin have been informed. However he is not being named at this stage."
He appealed for anyone with information in to contact police on 08457 444 888 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Officers are conducting house-to-house inquiries in Redditch in connection with this investigation and forensics teams have also been in the area.
