The funeral of a six-year-old boy who died in mysterious circumstances before his house was burned out will take place today.

Charlie-Bob Townsend was found in an upstairs bedroom at his home in the affluent village of Long Ashton, North Somerset.

His father, Christopher, 51, who worked as a set designer for the BBC, was discovered hanged in a garage adjacent to the semi-detached address.

Charlie-Bob's mother, Paula, 39, will be among hundreds of mourners at All Saints Church, in the village.

Mrs Townsend, who had divorced Charlie-Bob's father, previously told how her ex-husband made a furious outburst during a family court hearing less than 24 hours before the pair were found dead.

Speaking of her grief for Charlie-Bob, she said: "I just can't believe that he has gone. Charlie was a very bright boy. He had a cheeky grin and he was like a bull in a china shop.

"I'm going to take him his torch because he was always scared of the dark."

Prior to the service, there will be a short procession - including a horse-drawn carriage decorated by pupils from Northleaze Primary School - from the Old Church Hall in the village along Weston Road.

Teachers at Northleaze have paid tribute to the blond-haired boy.

Headteacher John Joliffe said: "Charlie-Bob was a happy boy who loved coming to school and had lots of friends. He was much loved by his classmates and the whole school community.

"A few weeks ago he came dressed as a knight in shining armour, as part of a knights and castles project and took part in a wonderful staged battle."

Floral tributes to Charlie-Bob, who has a 12-year-old brother, Louis, piled up outside the house after the tragedy last month.

One card from a youngster read: "You have been my dear friend since nursery school. I love you and will miss you forever. What will I do at school without you?"

The family has asked the media not to attend the church service.
