Lord Mayor adds finishing touches!

The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Glynn Evans, recently visited Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre, Wythenshawe, to see first-hand the wide range of activities taking place and to meet some of the 1000 visitors who are now using the Centre each week. He also met members of the Volunteer Team - 110%, Centre staff and partner agencies who all gave him the grand tour of this outstanding facility.

The Lord Mayor was also able to add some finishing touches to the new Community Garden, which is near to completion, by taking part in a spot of fence-painting. This new garden will offer the community a wonderful relaxation area, host picnics and barbecues and offer outdoor games such as giant chess and boules. There will also be some outdoor exercise equipment for use by the whole community, but particularly suitable for older people. A new hard surface area will also provide further play courts and overspill parking facilities when the Centre is busy.

Whilst visiting the Centre The Lord Mayor met young people using the all-weather pitches, the dance studios, the sports hall and the community rooms. He also took part himself in some short-mat bowling and line dancing. The Lord Mayor then spent some time chatting to a community disabled group, the Craft for All group, the Playing for Success team with children from St Anthony’s Primary School, and with Young Volunteers who told him about their team-building trip to South Africa and their preparations for this summer’s volunteer adventure.

The Lord Mayor commented “I am absolutely thrilled to see such an impressive building being used by the whole Community in this way. Everybody I have met today is getting so much benefit from this facility and having such a great time as well. The Centre is approaching its 2nd anniversary and the Volunteers, staff and other partner agencies have a great deal to be proud of. There is something for everybody here”.
