Final preparations are taking place for the biggest public event in a decade to be held at the University of Leicester.

Celebrate Leicester Day on Saturday April 26 marks the highlight of the 50th Anniversary Year of the University of Leicester and is billed as a day of fun, stimulation and entertainment for all the family.

Celebrate Leicester Day begins at 10.30 am and runs until 4.00 pm during which time visitors will be able to take advantage of an exciting programme of lectures, displays and hands-on activities that are being put on by most of the University's Departments.

The activities cater for all age groups and there are even rides and a bouncy castle for younger children. With over 100 activities there’s something on offer to suit everyone. For example, visitors can:

- hear the latest scientific discoveries about Pterodactyls;
- debate What is Murder?;
- visit the Virtual Reality Lab in the Department of Geography; and
- be taken back to the world of the 1930s American film serial.

However, if that’s not your thing, then how about:
- listening to music from the University's Chamber Choir and Umoja Gospel Choir;
- hearing how psychological profiling helps catch dangerous criminals;
- carrying out keyhole surgery; or
- making slime of any colour with our Department of Chemistry; and
- looking out as a Viking invasion hits the campus!

The Day will also be the first opportunity for many people to visit the University's new David Wilson Library.

The Day is free, open to everyone and there is no need to book. There are plenty of places to eat on campus. The full programme and information on car parking can be downloaded from http://www2.le.ac.uk/institution/50-years/cld
