Candidates wanted for election to new Cheshire local authority
Residents of the planned Cheshire West and Chester Council are being encouraged to think about standing for election to the new authority.
A detailed ‘councillor pack’ has been prepared which highlights the role of a councillor in the new organisation and the flexibility that exists to enable people with busy and demanding lives to become a councillor.
Councillor Les Ford, Chair of the Joint Committee for Cheshire West and Chester, said: “Councillors in the new organisation will have a real opportunity to shape the neighbourhoods that they live in and the lives of people in those communities.
“Becoming a councillor requires being interested and wanting to make a difference. How you make a difference is incredibly varied, you could be making planning decisions, developing budgets or engaging in neighbourhood consultation…the activities are endless.”
To become a candidate for the elections on May 1 2008 you do not have to be affiliated to a political party.
