Work to bring Colchester Town Hall in line with the Disability Discrimination Act is one step nearer to being completed with plans for installation of a new lift ready to start.

The Cabinet are set to hear at their meeting on Wednesday 30 January plans for when the lift project is set to start along with expected costs for the project.

Architects have completed a design detailing how the lift can be incorporated into the Town Hall with approval of the project by English Heritage and Colchester Borough Council Planning department.

Councillor Nick Taylor Portfolio Holder for Resources said: "We are very pleased that we are now at a stage for the new installation of the lift in the Town Hall to start.

"Not only will this bring us up to current Disability Discrimination Act requirements but it will also mean that more people can visit the Town Hall and use its excellent facilities."
