Leicestershire County Council has been awarded the highest score possible in the latest financial assessment by independent auditors, the Audit Commission.

This assessment rates the Council in terms of how it manages its finances and value for money

Last year only 6 out of 150 upper tier authorities (county and unitary councils) received such a high score for the value for money element of the assessment.

The inspectors were particularly impressed by recent improvements to both the Education and Library service and the steps the council has put in place to continue to drive out efficiencies.

Councillor Brian Page, Lead Member for Resources said “The provision of value for money services is a key objective of the council and it is extremely pleasing that this has now been recognised by independent auditors.

"The council will maintain its focus on efficiency and continue to make hard decisions as it looks for new ways of saving money but still providing high quality services.”
