South Bedfordshire District Council is going against the opinion that says that councils are afraid of getting public opinion on their unitary bids. The Council is going the extra mile by asking younger residents what they think.
As well as already giving local people the chance to have their say in our Informaction magazine, on our website http://www.southbeds.gov.uk/or by voting on our a special Central Bedfordshire leaflet, youngsters can now access their own pages on the subject at http://www.myspace.com/centralbedfordshire.
The free site puts forward the council’s argument that merging with Mid Beds Council to create a new, more effective council for the whole of Central Bedfordshire would be the best option for people living here, both now and in the future.
Leader of South Bedfordshire District Council, Norman Costin says: "It's very important that we get the views of the next generation on the unitary bid. After all they are the ones that will be living and working in the area for years after the Government’s decision is made. On this site they can learn about what the bids will mean to them and put across their views. While many of them will not be voting age yet, their opinions still very much matter and we actively encourage them to let us know how they think their Council should be run in the future"
The site http://www.myspace.com/centralbedfordshire can also be accessed via the popular youth website http://www.funkeemunkee.co.uk/
