One of the county’s high performing secondary schools is to get a new head teacher this September.

Andrew Marson, the current head teacher at the Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School is retiring after twenty-one years in post.  He will be replaced by Sara Catlow-Hawkins who is currently associate headteacher at the Lakers School in neighbouring Coleford, Gloucestershire.

Sara is very much looking forward to joining Bishops.  “I am thrilled to have been appointed to this exciting post,” she said.

“Over the days of the interview and subsequently, I have been delighted by the warmth of the staff, students and governors,” she continued.

“The school has flourished under the strong leadership of Andrew Marson and as a consequence, rightly enjoys an excellent reputation; students enjoy coming to school and are very successful in all that they do.

“I would like to wish Andrew a very happy and fulfilling retirement – I know he will remain a highly valued friend of the school.

“Bishops is an exciting place to be due to the exceptional commitment of the staff to the success of every young person.  I look forward to working with our students as they make the most of their abilities, the opportunities offered to them and achieve their personal goals”.

Keith Lawton, chair of governors, said  “As we were selecting a head teacher to lead a successful church school, the governors have placed great emphasis on leadership qualities, the Christian and community commitment of the applicants.

“The governors feel that Mrs Catlow-Hawkins will be an excellent head teacher, who will lead the school forward and maintain the outstanding quality of Christian education which the school has been recognised for in its most recent OFSTED report.”

Mrs Catlow-Hawkins takes up her new role in September 2007.
