Team Tameside, proudly sponsored by New Charter Housing Trust, commenced their preparations for the forthcoming Greater Manchester Youth Games at Astley Sports College, Dukinfield on Tuesday 20th March.
The games, a showcase of sport and arts development for young people aged between 8 and 18, take place at four great facilities in Manchester: Sportcity, Broughton Park Rugby Club, Belle Vue Leisure Centre and the Manchester Aquatics Centre on Saturday 30th June 2007.
With 24 teams, covering 14 sports, Tameside Sports Development are preparing well in advance and teaming up with local Sports Clubs, Club Coaches and local School PE Teachers to undertake this massive task of recruiting the best young sports people of Tameside to compete and represent our Borough in this year’s Games.
To mark the start of Team Tameside’s preparations for the Youth Games, young netballer’s from local secondary schools, attended the trials in order to have a chance of gaining a place in the squad to compete against all the other nine Boroughs of Greater Manchester in June.
They were put through their paces by Anna Newall, ex England player and currently playing for Northern Thunder Netball team.
Ex Manchester City goalkeeper, Carlo Nash, now on loan at Premiership Wigan Athletic was also in attendance to cheer the youngsters on and to give advice on preparing for a big event.
Representatives from New Charter looked on as these talented young hopefuls worked hard to win a place on this year’s Netball Team and gave their support on the day.
