Almost 700 people visited the newly revamped  Haydock Library to take a look at its £327,000 makeover when it organised an open day to mark its official opening by St. Helens Mayor Cllr Teresa Sims.

Of these, more than 60 joined the library and 35 joined to gain Internet access.   Existing library users have already written positive comments in the visitor book about the improved new look which offers attractive and modern facilities including  a new family friendly community room.  It also provides themed areas plus a Playstation, CD listening and DVD viewing points.

Additional services include facilities to pay a range of Council bills by credit or debit cards, a community room which is available for hire, car parking, disabled toilets and a baby changing area.

Haydock library is equipped with FREE broadband Internet access available to all and blockbuster DVD releases.  A Reading Group is being organised and there are plans to run basic IT courses, provide a parents’ information section, invite visiting authors for adults and children, special book promotions and local history talks too.

During the open day the activities included quizzes for all age groups.
