Hundreds of hopefuls queued to ‘step into the limelight’ at the South Bedfordshire Jobs, Skills and Training Fair last Wednesday  (17 January) at Houghton Regis Leisure Centre.  Many of those were there to specially visit the Grove Theatre job information stand to find out about employment opportunities at the venue, which opens in April.

The theatre is recruiting for positions in its performance team, box office and technical departments.

Theatre Manager, Jo Ditch said: “It’s not every day that a new, state of the art 780 seat theatre opens, so we have had an amazing level in interest from people in the local area.   We were rushed off our feet at the Job Fair and had people queuing to speak to us on our stand.  In all, we have handed out over 600 application forms for the 45 positions on offer.”

The Fair was organised by South Bedfordshire District Council in partnership with Job Centre Plus and was funded by Bedfordshire County Council.  Other local employers who attended the event included Easyjet, Greggs, Superdrug, Connexions, Aldwyck Housing Association and University of Bedfordshire.

Organiser Donna Wilkinson, from the council’s Economic Regeneration Team, said, “The start of the year is often a time when people re-think their jobs and careers.  We have such a rich and diverse mix of employers, training and voluntary organisations in the area and this was the perfect way to bring them all together under one roof.  We estimate that nearly 900 people visited on the day, making the event a huge success for all who attended.”
