Wirral pupils were rewarded for their efforts in improving international relations and cultural awareness last week.

Nine award categories were contested at Wallasey Town Hall on 7th February with the winners receiving their awards from Mayor of Wirral Councillor Peter Johnson.

The schools were judged on excellence in a number of areas including languages studied and international events, international links, future activities, global citizenship and activities designed to develop enterprise capability and awareness of the international dimension of working life.

The awards, now in their seventh year were sponsored by Wirral Direct, the council’s inward investment and business support team and Wirralbiz, the business start-up programme.  Phil Smith, Head of Wirral Direct said: “Wirral Direct has sponsored the school awards for a number of years and are delighted to do so.  To see the event grow each year and the commitment and enthusiasm of the pupils of all ages is very rewarding.  The school awards are very much about helping Wirral youngsters to become aware of the major social and cultural changes taking place in the world.   I congratulate everyone who entered this year."

This year, nine entrants (6 Wirral secondary and 3 primary schools) took part in the presentation evening having previously submitted an application form on their schools’ international activities.  At the awards evening students delivered a presentation on aspects of their school’s application.  The application forms had already been judged by the awarding panel and the presentations and school displays were judged on the night.
