Older residents in Coventry are receiving excellent support services in their sheltered housing schemes, according to an independent watchdog.
Whitefriars Housing Group, which houses more than 300 older people across the city, has been awarded the Code of Practice for Sheltered Housing. This is a specific kite mark which shows that Whitefriars is providing a high level service for tenants.
Staff at Whitefriars’ Independent Living Team have worked for a year to achieve the national recognised standard. Two tenants helped provide the evidence for a portfolio for the independent auditor - this was followed by a visit to the schemes and an interview with tenants and managers.
Neil Evans, operations manager, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this kitemark. It demonstrates the high quality services we are offering to Coventry’s most vulnerable residents.
“We have worked for more than a year to gather the evidence needed so it is fantastic news that we have been successful in our application. We are also delighted that we can reassure residents and their families that they are receiving a first-rate support service.’’
The Code of Practice for Sheltered Housing, is co-ordinated by the Centre for Sheltered Housing Studies, was first devised in 1993.
