This spring sees the launch of an exciting new arts project in Leighton Buzzard that will see the paring of local artists with local businesses. Adopt an Artist is a four week project, run by South Bedfordshire District Council, that will transform the town with free art exhibitions and demonstrations from 29 March.
The District Council is looking for artists living in or near Leighton Buzzard and Linslade to take part in the scheme by exhibiting or demonstrating their work for free. Anyone who is interested should contact Emma-Jane Jones on 01582 474166, or emma.jones@southbeds.gov.uk for an application form. Artists will be required to install and insure their work, but the council will provide all publicity.
The council is also looking for businesses to host the exhibitions. There is no cost involved and the scheme, all that is needed is some space, large or small. This could be a window, cabinet, wall space or similar.
The council’s Executive Member with responsibility for the arts, Councillor David McVicar, said: “The scheme is a great way of promoting local business and supporting local artists. By bringing the two industries together we hope to create lasting relationships and improve the amount of exhibition space currently available to our local artists. The scheme will also promote and encourage people in the area to visit their local shops and increase their income throughout the four week period.”
Anyone interested in participating in the scheme or wishing to join the mailing list for information should call Arts Development Officer, Emma-Jane Jones on 01582 474166 or email emma.jones@southbeds.gov.uk. Applications to participate in the scheme will be available until 12 February.
